This project was unique, in the sense that Adco built and commissioned this plant twice.  NTPC had requested a modular power plant for the community of Colville Lake.  NTPC provided Adco with empty modified sea cans and most of the major material. Adco worked on the basic layout, engineering and fabrication, as well as providing services for site start-up and commissioning.  NTPC also requested Adco to fully construct and test their new power plant at Adco’s Edmonton fabrication facility, before disassembling the plant, and shipping it to site via the winter road.  The power plant consisted of three diesel generators, for a total of 350KW’s of power, and all other usual equipment (radiators, heat exchanges, fuel coolers, fuel pumps, fuel tanks, MCC’s. PLC’s, etc.) found in NTPC power plants.  Another unique aspect of this project was the fact NTPC was also going to use solar power and battery storage to supply the community.  This was the first of its kind for NTPC.  Adco worked closely with NTPC sub-contractors to make sure all three systems (diesel, solar and battery) worked seamlessly together.  Over the years Adco and NTPC have had a very good relationship, that has only continued to grow with another successful project like Colville Lake.
